What is an Adenoidectomy?

The adenoids are a very important part of the body that not many people know about. These glands located where the nose connects to the throat are crucial for producing antibodies that help fight off infections. When the adenoids become enlarged from fighting frequent throat infections, they can be damaging to the airways and block the eustachian tubes in your middle ears. Not only can this affect your breathing, but it can also cause chronic ear infections. Adenoidectomy is a surgical procedure that removes the enlarged adenoid glands to remedy these issues. Patients who may have enlarged adenoids and would benefit from an adenoidectomy may experience one or more of the following symptoms:

How Much Does an Adenoidectomy Cost?

The cost of your adenoidectomy will vary depending on the individualized treatment plan recommended for you and your current health insurance coverage. To get a more accurate assessment of how much your adenoidectomy will cost, we encourage you to come in for a private consultation with Dr. Elangovan. At Resolve ENT, we are also happy to offer financing that helps you more easily pay for your treatments at your convenience.

What Can I Expect During my Adenoidectomy?

Your adenoidectomy will be performed by Dr. Siva Elangovan in our state-of-the-art facility. Prior to your adenoidectomy surgery, a local or general anesthetic may be administered to ensure you remain comfortable and calm throughout the entirety of your procedure. Once numb, Dr. Elangovan will make a small incision in the roof of the mouth through which he will be able to remove the enlarged adenoids. The incision will then be closed with cauterization.

What Can I Expect After my Adenoidectomy?

Recovering from an adenoidectomy is very similar to recovering from a tonsillectomy. Patients will likely have a sore throat for two to three weeks following their procedure and will be encouraged to consume soft foods and cool liquids throughout their recovery. It’s important to wait until the incision site is completely healed before consuming any spicy or hard foods until getting the O.K. from Dr. Elangovan. Patients typically make a full recovery within about three to four weeks of their adenoidectomy.

Am I a Good Candidate For an Adenoidectomy?

If you are having trouble with chronic ear infections, poor sleep, sleep apnea, or other symptoms caused by enlarged adenoid glands, an adenoidectomy may be right for you. The best way to find out if you’re a good candidate for an adenoidectomy is to come in for a private consultation with Dr. Elangovan. He’ll be happy to sit down with you, listen to your concerns, evaluate your condition, and develop a fully personalized treatment plan to help you achieve your ultimate health and wellness goals.
