What is Facial Pain?
When some of our patients share their concerns of sinus issues with Dr. Elangovan, they often express an intense pressure behind their eyes or nose that causes facial pain. This is caused by a buildup of fluid in the sinuses, which are deeply nestled behind our facial structures. This facial pain is often accompanied by chronic sinus infections and headaches, as the fluid in the sinuses buildup while you sleep and doesn’t have the opportunity to drain properly. If you suffer from facial pain and any of the following symptoms, we encourage you to come in for your private consultation and evaluation.
- Runny Nose
- Poor Sleep
- Nasal Obstruction & Congestion
- Chronic Sinusitis
- Ear Pressure & Fullness
- Ear Infections
What Causes Facial Pain?
The facial pain that our patients experience is often caused by a buildup of fluid in the sinuses that has no way of draining properly. This fluid buildup creates intense pressure against our facial structures and results in dull, chronic pain behind the eyes and nose. Patients who come in complaining of facial pain typically struggle with chronic headaches that are hard to treat and chronic sinus infections.
What are the Dangers of Facial Pain?
Just like a runny nose or light snoring, facial pain by itself isn’t necessarily a harmful or dangerous symptom. That being said, facial pain is almost never exhibited alone. Patients who come in complaining of facial pain also find that they have chronic sinus infections, extreme sinus headaches, and aren’t able to sleep well at night. This may cause our patients to suffer both physically and mentally, as their quality of sleep begins to suffer. Patients find they are less interested in activities they once used to enjoy, are more depressed on a regular basis, and have trouble focusing on normal daily tasks such as school and work.
